Randal Logues and Rachel DeWilde from USFWS’s Conservation Genetics Lab extract DNA from Yukon River Chum Salmon fin clips that have been flown into Anchorage. Each year this lab analyzes approximately 3,000 of these tiny samples over the course of the summer and fall to aid fisheries managers decision-making in real time.
