The aurora borealis鈥攐r Northern Lights鈥攏ear Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. The phenomenon is caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter Earth鈥檚 atmosphere. Northern Lights are visible across the heart of Alaska in winter.
