Service Announces Request for Proposals for the FY16 Tribal Wildlife Grants Program

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is requesting proposals for the FY 2016 Tribal Wildlife Grants (TWG) Program. The program provides a competitive funding opportunity for federally recognized tribal governments to develop and implement programs for the benefit of wildlife and their habitat, including species of Native American cultural or traditional importance and species that are not hunted or fished.

More than $68 million has gone to Native American tribes through the program since 2003, providing support for more than 400 tribal conservation projects. Past grants have enabled tribes to develop increased management capacity, improve and enhance relationships with partners (including state agencies), address cultural and environmental priorities, and heighten tribal students鈥 interest in fisheries, wildlife and related fields of study.  Grants have also been awarded to support recovery efforts for threatened and endangered species.

To be accepted, project proposals must be postmarked on or before October 30, 2015 and submitted to the appropriate service regional office.

Due to the highly competitive nature of TWG, proposals that target FWS priorities and emerging issues will generally have greater success. Applicants are encouraged to work with their regional Native American Liaisons to develop proposals that score as many points as possible.

To view the FY 2016 TWG Application Kit and related materials including requirements, regional office addresses and regional Native American liaisons, please visit www.fws.gov/nativeamerican/grants.html, or contact the Native American Liaison in the Service鈥檚 Regional Office in which the proposed project would occur.

Information on TWG is also available from the Office of the National Native American Programs Coordinator, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 1211 SE Cardinal Court, Suite 100, Vancouver, WA 98683; telephone number (360) 604-2531.
