Supported by the Department of Defense (DoD)鈥檚 Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration program , the鈥疉rmy Compatible Use Buffers 鈥痯rogram is a mission support tool to mitigate encroachment. The Army Compatible Use Buffers program preserves the capability, availability, and accessibility of an installation鈥檚 mission space. Using the program, the Army partners with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and conservation organizations, state and local governments, and willing landowners to purchase land in order to prevent the land from being used in a manner that is incompatible with mission, or to relieve environmental pressures on the installation. Many of these lands support habitat crucial to natural resource conservation, and species and habitat protection.
