
Regulations and types of hunting activities permitted differ between Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and the Tishomingo Wildlife Management Unit (WMU). The WMU is managed through a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) and follows Oklahoma State Regulations.
Hunting Seasons on the NWR:
Waterfowl (duck, teal, mergansers, coot, light geese, and dark geese)- Variable, per state season dates. State bag limits apply. Shotgun only. Hunting in Unit 2 and 21 only. Federally approved non-toxic shot required. 30 minutes before sunrise to 1:00 pm.
Migratory Game Bird (snip, gallinule) - Variable, per state season dates. State bag limits apply. Shotguns only. Hunting in Unit 2 and 21 only.
Deer Archery - November 8 - 16, 2025. Controlled hunt only. Lottery is administered through ODWC. Unit 21 only. Max 2 deer, only one can be antlered.
Youth Deer Rifle - October 23 - 24, 2025. Controlled hunt only. Lottery is administered through ODWC. Max 2 deer, only one can be antlered.
Non-ambulatory Deer Rifle - November 6-7, 2025. Controlled hunt only. Lottery is administered through ODWC. Max 2 deer, only one can be antlered.
Adult Deer Rifle - December 20-21, 2025. Controlled hunt only. Lottery is administered through ODWC. Max 2 deer, only one can be antlered.
Turkey - April 23-24, 2026. Controlled hunt only. Lottery is administered through ODWC. One tom turkey.
Feral Hogs - Incidental take on other hunts. May be taken during daylight hours of any established refuge hunt. Must use legal means of take for that hunts. Hogs must not leave refuge alive.
Hunting Seasons on the WMU (State regulations apply, except where noted. Entire unit is open to hunting):
Waterfowl - Variable, per state season dates. State bag limits apply. State licenses and appropriate stamps are required, waterfowl hunting closes at 1:00 pm. Only Federally approved non-toxic shot required. Methods of take are in alignment with the state.
Deer - Variable, per state season dates. State regulations apply for harvest. Method of take is variable and may include center-fire rifle, shotgun, handgun, muzzleloader and archery equipment. Federally approved non-toxic shot is mandatory for all shotgun hunting, except for single slugs. Rifle hunters are not required to use non-toxic bullets.
Turkey - Variable, per state season dates. One tom turkey. Federally approved non-toxic shot is mandatory for all shotgun hunting regardless of species being hunted.
Feral Hogs - Allowed year round. Unlimited harvest. May be taken with various weapons (shotguns, archery, rifle) with methods authorized for that hunting season. No feral hogs may be removed alive from the WMU. Pursuing with hounds in prohibited.
Furbearers and Predators - Allowed per season days except closed during the first nine days of deer gun season. Harvest is per state regulations. Pursuing with hounds or trapping is prohibited.
Dove and other migratory birds - Allowed per season dates. Harvest is per state regulaitons. Federally approved non-toxic shot is mandatory for all shotgun hunting regulations regardless of species being hunted.
