About Ron Schindler

Ron Schindler joined the Fish and Wildlife Service in May 2025. A lifetime outdoor enthusiast and conservationist, Ron comes to the Service with experience bringing federal, state, tribal and private interests together to mutually address pressing environmental and natural resource issues.

Ron began his career as an exploration geologist in Colorado and later turned in his rock hammer for an attorney’s pen. As an attorney, he has worked on landscape/broad habitat issues in areas ranging from western states region of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming to regions southward in north, south, and west Texas. He has focused much of his career on issues mitigating oil and gas industry impact on wildlife such as elk, prairie chicken, mountain plover, and lizard populations. A believer that “dataâ€ and “facts are our friends,â€ Ron has spearheaded scientific studies and gathered funds to sustain such studies over time.

Ron received his Bachelor of Arts in geology from Idaho State University, a Juris Doctor (JD) from University of Denver, and a Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in natural resources and environmental law in a cooperative program between Colorado School of Mines (where he later served as an adjunct) and University of Denver.

Ron is married and has two married sons. He also has two granddaughters who (with him) love all creeping, crawling, hopping, and fluttering things. He enjoys hiking, horsemanship, geology, woodworking, building, and music performance.
