The National Eagle Repository is a one of a kind facility, operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement. The primary purpose of the National Eagle Repository is to receive, evaluate, store and distribute the remains and feathers of deceased golden and bald eagles to Native Americans and Alaska Natives who are enrolled members of federally-recognized Tribes throughout the United States, and to develop and provide educational programs.

This is an official website of the United States government. This website and publications produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are the only official sources of information about the National Eagle Repository. The National Eagle Repository changed its operational procedures in response to an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Learn more about HPAI and our response below in "Our Library."

  • Tail only: 5 years, 3 months; currently filling orders submitted in June 2020 or earlier
  • Wings only: 1 year, 3 months; currently filling orders submitted in June 2024 or earlier
  • 10 quality loose feathers: 3 years, 8 months; currently filling orders submitted in January 2022 or earlier
  • 20 miscellaneous loose feathers: 9 months, currently filling orders submitted in January 2025 or earlier
Immature golden eagle:
