Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge welcomes a diversity of visitor activities including: bicycling, bird watching, photography, horseback riding, dog walking, hiking, jogging, picnicking, education, and interpretation. Please read the descriptions of the uses to enjoy your visit.

Cycling is allowed on all open refuge trails.

Bird watching is allowed on all designated trails open to the public.

Dog walking is allowed on all refuge trails. Please remember to keep your dog on a 6 foot non retractable leash at all times. And, please remember to pick up dog waste and place in dog waste receptacle near the refuge entrance kiosk.

Hiking is allowed on all designated trails open to the public.

Horseback riding is allowed along the Bosque Loop trail only and is intended for local users- there are no locations on the refuge for parking horse trailers.

Whether you wield a smartphone or a zoom lens, you鈥檒l find photo-worthy subjects at national wildlife refuges and national fish hatcheries. Wildlife photography is a priority public use on national wildlife refuges, so you鈥檒l find wildlife drives and blinds and overlooks to help you get the images you鈥檙e after.
Many multi-purpose trails are open to runners and joggers as well as walkers and, in some cases, bicyclists. Some sites host annual fun runs. Check individual refuge websites for details.
