Restoring Coastal Wetlands of Southeast Louisiana on NWRs

Louisiana's coastal marshes are some of our country's most vulnerable wetlands to sea level rise and subsidence. Despite this challenge, the National Wildlife Refuge System and their partners have been successfully building marshes and restoring coastal habitats for fish and wildlife since the 1990s by taking advantage of sediment and dredge materials. This has increased the acres of wetland habitat and the elevations of the coastal wetlands making the system more resilient to sea level rise and storms.
