About This Position

Welcome to Wild at one of America鈥檚 most premier federal lands- Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge! As a volunteer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Grant Researchers will assist our Biology and Management Teams with finding, cataloging, and potentially drafting grants for Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in Central New Mexico.聽


Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is the largest of the last remaining intact wetlands of the historic floodplains of the Rio Grande. A small group of staff work hard to re-create the processes of the river and provide food and rest for thousands of overwintering birds in what is now a world-famous nature tourism destination. Each year the Friends of the Bosque del Apache hosts a large festival (Festival of the Cranes) which draws about 6,000 visitors and spans multiple days.聽聽

We are seeking individuals to serve as a grant researcher and writer to start as soon as possible.聽


The Grant Researcher Position has flexibility in number of hours and days worked.聽The position can either be remote or onsite. If onsite, the selected individual must work at least 24 hours per week. The selected individual must provide their own computer/laptop. If living onsite, there is an opportunity to utilize a government furnished laptop after completing a background check. This position may require the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. The selected individual will:

  • Work with refuge staff to learn of refuge needs and priorities
  • Research grant opportunities for which the refuge might qualify to apply to support identified priorities
  • Catalog grant opportunities with eligibility and application requirements, deadlines, and contacts, including research taken to identify opportunities
  • Draft project descriptions or other sections of grant applications so the refuge may apply for funding
