$5,000 Reward Offered for Information Regarding the Illegal Killing of a Nēnē near the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauaʻi

HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi � The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement is seeking information regarding the illegal killing of a federally listed threatened nēnē (Hawaiian goose). The Service is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest, criminal conviction or civil penalty assessment.

On July 8, the  Service received a report that a nÄ“nÄ“ was found dead near the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Waimea, KauaÊ»i. The nÄ“nÄ“ was allegedly shot with possibly a pellet gun or .22 rifle/pistol. NÄ“nÄ“s are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
