HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi � The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement is seeking information regarding the illegal killing of a federally listed threatened nēnē (Hawaiian goose). The Service is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest, criminal conviction or civil penalty assessment.
On July 8, the Service received a report that a nēnē was found dead near the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Waimea, Kauaʻi. The nēnē was allegedly shot with possibly a pellet gun or .22 rifle/pistol. Nēnēs are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
